Criteria:

The Public Health Service Distinguished Service Medal is an award of the Department of Health and Human Services that recognizes outstanding contributions to the mission of the PHS. This achievement can range from the management of a major health program or an action that results in a major impact on the health of the Nation. The award may also be presented for heroic actions while assigned to the PHS. These actions may result in the savings of lives, health or property. While this is considered a civilian award it is approved for wear on all military uniforms.
